This year’s draft included Joshua Bailey, Corey Trivino, Aaron Ness, Travis Harmonic, David Toews, Jyri Niemi, Kirill Petrov, Matt Donovan, David Ullstrom, Kevin Poulin, Matthew Martin, Jared Spurgeon and Justin Dibenedetto. This promising group hails from OHL Windsor, OPJHL Stouffville, Rouseau High, WHL Moose Jaw, Shat. St. Mary’s, WHL Saskatoon, Kazan Russia, USHL Cedar Rapids, SWE-Jr. HV 71 Jr., QMJHL Victoriaville, OHL Sarnia, WHL Spokane and OHL Sarnia. The season ahead may provide an excellent learning experience for them all.

The drafts will get a chance to see the lineup of Islanders do their thing on the ice. Players this season include team forward members Josh Bailey, Sean Bergenheim, Blake Comeau, Mike Comrie, Bill Guerin, Andy Hilbert, Trent Hunter, Tim Jackman, Kurtis McLean, Frans Nielsen, Kyle Okposo, Richard Park, Mike Sillinger, Jon Sim, Jeff Tambellini, Nate Thompson and Dougt Weight. Islander defensemen team players include Chris Campoli, Bruno Gervais, Radek Martinek, Freddy Meyer, Thomas Pock, Mark Streit, Andy Sutton and Brendan Witt. Goalies for the team include Yann Danis, Rick DiPietro, Joey MacDonald and Peter Mannino. Although the lineups look good, more than a couple of players are currently on the injured reserves list including Hunter, Sillinger, Weight, Meyer, Sutton and MacDonald.

Possibly the coaches will have their work cut out for them but it doesn’t look like they’ll have any problem. The coaches and staff working to keep the Rangers in shape include head coach Scott Gordon, assistant coach John Chabot, assistant coach Dan Lacroix, goaltending coach Mike Dunham, goaltending consultant Sudarshan Maharaj, assistant player development specialist Eric Cairns, strength and conditioning coach Chris Schwarz, equipment manager Scott Boggs, assistant equipment manager Richard Krouse, equipment assistant Tom Kitz, head athletic trainer Garrett Timms and assistant athletic trainer Nates Goto.

The Islanders head into break with a win over the Duck 2-1. After break, they round out the month with two more games against the Thrashers and Panthers away and at home respectively. In February the Islanders will host games at home against the Lightning, Kings, Penguins, Hurricanes, Devils and Maple Leafs. February away games will have the Islanders take the ice as visitors in games against the Panthers, Devils, Flyers, Rangers and Penguins. During the month of March, the Islanders will stay on the visitor side for games against the Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Bruins, Blackhaws, Hurricanes, Senators and Red Wings. March home games for the Islanders will be against the Avalanche, Rangers, Devils, Coyotes, Wild and Flyers.

April represents a roundup of the season and the final games that the Islanders will play for the season. Home games for the Islanders are scheduled against the Canadiens, Lightning, Flyers and Bruins, the last of which will be held on Sunday, April 12. Away games in April for the Islanders are planned against the Capitals, Hurricanes, and the Penguins.

So far in the Eastern Conference Atlantic division of the regular season standings, the Islanders are fifth down with 13 wins, 29 losses and 5 OTs. Could be better, could be worse, fortunately the season is still young.

hanahan may have brought it home in the last game before the break but it was a team effort that makes wins happen. Devils’ forward players getting ice time this season include David Clarkson, Patrik Elias, Brian Gionta, Robert Holik, Jamie Langenbrunner, John Madden, Jay Pandolfo, Zach Parise, Brian Rolston, Mike Rupp, Shanahan, Travis Zajac and Dainius Zubrus. Team defensemen getting ice time this season include Sheldon Brookbank, Andy Greene, Jay Leach, Paul Martin, Mike Mottau, John Oduya, Bryce Salvador and Colin White. Goalies for the team are Martin Brodeur, Scott Clemmensen and Kevin Weekes but Brodeur is currently on the injured reserves list. Hats go off to the coaches, staff and medical team; many of whom work behind the scenes doing what it takes to keep the players in good shape and on top of their game as best as possible. Coaches include head coach Brent Sutter, assistant coach John MacLean, assistant coach Tommy Albelin and goaltending coach Jacques Caron. The training staff is comprised of head trainer Richard Stinziano, equipment manager Rich Matthews, assistant equipment manager Alex Abasto, assistant equipment manager Matthew Mitchell, assistant equipment manager Mike Thibault, strength and conditioning coordinator Michael Vasalani, massage therapist Tommy Plasko, fitness consultant Vladimir Bure and exercise physiologist doctor Garret Caffrey. A team of special assignment coaches are also on hand and consist of Pat Burns, Jacques Laperriere, Larry Robinson, Scott Stevens and Chris Terreri. With a 5-2 win over the Canadiens, the Devils will finish out the month of January with two more games against the Bruins and Penguins, away and home respectively. In February, the Devils will travel and take to the ice as visitors in games against the Thrashers, Panthers, Lightning and Islanders. At home in February, they will host games against the Capitals, Kings, Rangers, Islanders, Bruins, Sharks, Avalanche and the Panthers. Games during the month of March will be a mixture of at home and away games. The travelling occasions for the Devils will include away games against the Maple Leafs, Islanders, Canadiens, Hurricanes, Bruins, Flyers, Blackhawks and the Rangers. On their own ice, hopefully the Devils will bring their best plays to host games against the Flyers, Flames, Coyotes, Blackhawks, Wild and the Hurricanes. In April, the Devils will hold two games at home against the Lightning and Maple Leafs. The rest of the games that complete the season will be away games for the Devils where they take on the Penguins, Sabres and Senators as visitors with the last game of the season being against the Senators or Saturday, April 11. With third place standings in the Eastern Conference at present, the Devils are in a good position with 29 wins, 15 losses and 3 OT but it’s not a time they can get comfortable, even with the 5-game winning streak they’ve just experienced. Montreal and neighborhood peers New York Rangers are right on their heels with a competition where there’s only one Stanley Cup.

Graves has experienced a great career with the Rangers. At the start of his career it was a breakout season for Graves. And who can forget the 1993-94 season when the Graves and the rest of the Rangers team walked away with a well-deserved Stanley Cup! Graves has been instrumental in community projects as well. Visiting Swiss Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, Hackensack Hospital and attending the Garden of Dreams Cruise.
